A new law aimed at improving transportation between the Atlantic City International Airport and the city’s tourism district has been signed into law, marking a significant step in enhancing accessibility for visitors and supporting economic growth. The bill, championed by Assemblyman Don Guardian, Assemblywoman Claire Swift, and Assemblyman Antwan McClellan, allows the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority (CRDA) to collaborate with state transportation agencies for this purpose.
The law expands the scope of the CRDA, previously limited to funding projects within Atlantic City’s tourism district or those supporting community development. Now, the CRDA can finance highway and public transportation projects that facilitate access from the airport in Egg Harbor Township to the island’s tourism areas. This move addresses the existing challenges in connecting the mainland to the island, ensuring robust, reliable, and safe transportation routes.
Atlantic City’s tourism district, known for its boardwalk, marina, casinos, hotels, Boardwalk Hall, and the Atlantic City Convention Center, is a major draw for visitors. This new law is expected to ease travel for tourists flying into the region, further enhancing Atlantic City’s appeal as a premier entertainment and tourism destination in New Jersey.
Under the new legislation, the CRDA is now authorized to contract with the New Jersey Department of Transportation, New Jersey Transit, the South Jersey Transportation Authority, or the Transportation Trust Fund Authority to fund these critical transportation projects. The initiative is seen as a first step in broadening transportation options for travelers to Atlantic City, contributing to the city’s economic vitality and visitor experience.
