BRONX, NY – A NYC Department of Correction Captain, Brice Williams, has been indicted on multiple charges, including Grand Larceny, for fraudulently collecting at least $14,000 in payments for unworked hours.
While the Department of Correction faced a staffing crisis at Rikers Island, Williams allegedly falsified logbook and timekeeping entries and submitted fraudulent overtime requests. The indictment comes following an investigation by the Bronx District Attorney Darcel D. Clark and NYC Department of Investigation Commissioner Jocelyn E. Strauber.
Williams, 41, was arraigned before Bronx Supreme Court Justice Kim Parker on charges of third-degree Grand Larceny, Defrauding the Government, first-degree Tampering with Public Records, and first-degree Falsifying Business Records. He is due back in court on November 27.
According to the investigation, Williams altered official records between May 31, 2021, and September 3, 2021. On some occasions, he either came late or did not show up for work. In one instance, he claimed to work overtime while actually dining at a sushi restaurant in New Jersey.
From May 31 through July 18, Williams was paid at least $14,000 for regular and overtime hours he did not actually work. In 2021, Williams earned over $200,000, with $90,000
