Newark Police Attend Active Shooter Refresher Course in Light of Recent Incidents

NEWARK, NJ – The Newark Police Department are getting a refresher course in responding to active shooters and mass shooters in light of recent news across America. Two major mass shootings, on at a Buffalo supermarket and another at an elementary school in Texas have put police nationwide on high alert.

Today, Newark Public Safety Director Brian A. O’Hara has initiated a refresher training course for members of the Newark Police Division’s SWAT Team following recent mass shooting incidents across the country.

“It’s essential that we ensure that our response resources are as sharp as possible in the event that we experience any attacks on our city’s critical infrastructure, businesses, schools, and places of worship,” Director O’Hara said.

The active-shooter refresher course covers topics of safe entry into a location where an active shooter is present; information gathering; room clearing and hallway progression techniques; evacuation techniques; providing medical support to victims; and more, O’hara detailed.
