NEWARK, N.J. — The Newark Department of Public Safety is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a male suspect involved in an assault that occurred on a New Jersey Transit bus on Tuesday, August 27, 2024.

At around 1 p.m., the suspect and a woman got into a verbal altercation while riding the bus near Broad Street and Branford Place. The suspect allegedly spit in the woman’s face, which led to a physical altercation. The suspect then punched the victim in the face, and she later received medical treatment for her injuries at a local hospital.

Detectives describe the suspect as approximately 5’8” tall, 140 pounds, with a medium brown complexion. He was last seen wearing a blue shirt and blue sweatpants.

Newark Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé is urging anyone with information about the suspect’s identity to contact the police at the 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477).
