Newark police seek help identifying person of interest in Avon Avenue shooting

NEWARK, N.J. — The Newark Department of Public Safety is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a person of interest connected to a shooting that occurred earlier this month.

On December 5, 2024, at approximately 9:11 p.m., police responded to reports of a shooting in progress in the 400 block of Avon Avenue. Upon arrival, officers found property damage consistent with gunfire but did not locate any victims at the scene.

During the course of the investigation, including a review of surveillance footage, police identified the individual pictured as a person of interest in the case.

Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda, Sr. is urging anyone who can identify the person or provide information about the incident to contact the Newark Police Division’s 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477). Tips can remain anonymous and may qualify for a reward.
