Newark police seek Hillside man for questioning after Patten Place shooting

NEWARK, N.J. – Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda, Sr. is asking for the public’s help in locating a Hillside man wanted for questioning in a weekend shooting on Patten Place.

Investigators are searching for 32-year-old Marshall Moreira, who authorities say may have information about a firearm discharge reported around 12:35 p.m. Saturday near Wolcott Terrace. Officers responding to reports of shots fired did not find any victims, but recovered a single spent shell casing at the scene.

Detectives have since been working to trace the source of the gunfire and identify those involved. The department released Moreira’s name Monday as part of its ongoing effort to locate him for questioning.

Director Miranda urged anyone with information on Moreira’s whereabouts to contact the Newark Police Division’s 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477). Tips can also be submitted anonymously online through the department’s website and may qualify for a cash reward.
