Newark police seek man wanted for questioning in Baldwin Avenue shooting

Victim hospitalized in stable condition as investigators search for 29-year-old

NEWARK, N.J. – Police are asking for the public’s help in locating a Newark man wanted for questioning in connection with a shooting earlier this month, authorities said.

The incident occurred Friday, March 20, when officers responded around 8:46 p.m. to Baldwin Avenue near Clinton Avenue on reports of gunfire, according to Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda Sr. When officers arrived, they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound.

The victim was transported to University Hospital for treatment and is reported to be in stable condition.

Suspect sought for questioning

Detectives investigating the shooting are seeking Nahji Mayes, 29, of Newark, for questioning in connection with the case. Authorities have not released additional details about the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
