Newark police seeking suspect who assaulted female victim

NEWARK, NJ – Police in Newark are trying to identify and locate a victim who attempted physical assault of a woman on Friday in the area of Court Street and University Avenue.

According to Newark Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé, the woman walking in the area was approached by the suspect.

The male suspect attempted to engage her in conversation before grabbing her from behind and ripping her pants and underwear.

Frage is seeking the public’s help in identifying this suspect. He wasdescribed as Hispanic, approximately 18 years old, 5’6” tall, and having a slim build. He wore black pants, a hooded sweatshirt with red flannel inside, and yellow crocs.

Director Fragé urges anyone with information about the identity of this suspect to call the Police Division’s 24-hour Crime Stopper tip line at 1-877-NWK-TIPS (1-877-695-8477). All anonymous Crime Stopper tips are kept confidential and could result in a reward.
