NEWBURGH, N.Y. — Frank Baltimore, 36, of Newburgh, was sentenced to 13 years in prison on Tuesday following his conviction for criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, according to Orange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler. The sentence, handed down in Orange County Court, will be followed by five years of post-release supervision.

Baltimore’s conviction stems from a July 11, 2023 incident in the vicinity of Dubois Street in Newburgh. Prosecutors alleged that at approximately 1:00 a.m., Baltimore made threats to individuals in the area before firing a 9mm handgun five times in their direction. Although the shots struck a nearby vehicle, no one was injured.

Surveillance footage and other physical evidence collected at the scene led authorities to identify Baltimore as the gunman. During the investigation, Baltimore admitted to being the person in the video but claimed that the weapon he fired was a BB gun.

District Attorney Hoovler praised the work of law enforcement and reiterated the importance of holding individuals accountable for gun violence. Baltimore’s conviction followed a jury trial, where he was found guilty of the sole charge against him: criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree.

The sentence is part of ongoing efforts to reduce gun-related crime in Newburgh and Orange County.
