Newburgh Man Sentenced to Seven Years for Gun Possession

NEWBURGH, NYOrange County District Attorney David M. Hoovler announced the sentencing of 22-year-old Anthony Scarry of Walden to seven years in prison, followed by five years of post-release supervision. The sentencing took place on Friday, April 5, in Orange County Court.

Scarry had previously admitted guilt to Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree. This charge stemmed from an incident on June 25, 2023, when law enforcement was alerted by a ShotSpotter notification of gunfire at Broadway and William Street in the City of Newburgh. Although no suspects were found at the scene, police recovered shell casings and later obtained surveillance footage. The footage depicted Scarry and another individual at the scene, with Scarry visibly holding a gun while fleeing.

At his plea, Scarry confessed to possessing the loaded firearm, leading to his current prison sentence.
