Newburgh Resident Receives 19-Year Prison Sentence for Violent Crimes

January 8, 2025

Newburgh, NY – Jesus Bravo, 26, a resident of Newburgh, has been sentenced to 19 years in prison for violent offenses. On Monday, Bravo appeared in Orange County Court before Judge Craig Stephen Brown, where he was sentenced following his prior guilty plea. His charges included Attempted Murder in the Second Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, and two counts of Assault in the Second Degree, relating to episodes in 2023.

The investigation into these crimes was conducted by the Non-Fatal Shooting Taskforce, involving the City of Newburgh Police Department, Orange County District Attorney’s Office, and the Hudson Valley Crime Analysis Center. This task force targets gang-related violence and is backed by New York State’s GIVE initiative. The initiative seeks to address gun crimes even in cases with uncooperative victims and witnesses.

Documents revealed that on September 21, 2023, Bravo and his co-defendant, Wilmer Reyes-Bran, confronted a victim about gang affiliation in Newburgh. The confrontation escalated with Reyes-Bran stabbing the victim and Bravo attacking him physically.
