Man wanted for murder after woman found shot to death inside home

Newport News, VA – Police are actively searching for a man accused of killing his wife inside a Newport News home in a midday shooting that has left the community on alert. The victim was found dead inside the residence, and investigators quickly identified a suspect who remains at large.

Officers responded around 12:54 p.m. Wednesday to the 300 block of Deputy Lane for reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, they located 37-year-old Keshia Pearley inside the home suffering from a gunshot wound.

Pearley was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities said the investigation rapidly led to a suspect. “NNPD’s investigation swiftly identified the victim’s husband, Joquan Antonio Porter, a 39-year-old Newport News man, as the suspect in this case,” police stated.

Warrants have been issued charging Porter with multiple felonies, including first-degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and discharging a firearm within an occupied dwelling.

Authorities are urging the public not to approach the suspect and to report any information immediately. “Porter should be considered armed and dangerous,” police said.
