TRENTON, N.J., Sept. 29 — New Jersey Task Force 1 (NJ-TF1) has been deployed to Asheville, N.C., to assist in search and rescue operations following severe flooding caused by Hurricane Helene, the New Jersey State Police announced. The team, a specialized unit trained for disaster response, is on the ground providing critical support to local authorities as recovery efforts continue.
“Our specialized team is on the ground, providing critical support in search and rescue operations and helping local communities recover from the storm,” NJ State Police said in a statement. The team, composed of highly trained personnel, is working alongside other agencies to ensure the safety of those affected by the hurricane.
Asheville and surrounding areas were hit with heavy rainfall, leading to widespread flooding. Emergency responders have been working to rescue individuals trapped by rising waters and ensure the safety of residents in the region. The exact extent of the damage is still being assessed, but the flooding has caused road closures, power outages, and significant property damage.
NJ-TF1, part of the National Urban Search & Rescue Response System, is equipped to handle a range of emergency situations, including structural collapses and water rescues. “We are pleased to report that all NJ-TF1 members are safe and fully prepared to continue their mission,” the New Jersey State Police said.
