NJ Transit Line Shut Down After Man Struck by Train in Aberdeen

ABERDEEN, NJ – An adult male pedestrian was fatally struck by a North Jersey Coast Line train this morning near the Aberdeen-Matawan station, according to the Aberdeen Township Police Department. The incident occurred at approximately 8:07 a.m. in the vicinity of Cliffwood Avenue in Aberdeen.

The train involved was North Jersey Coast Line train 3326, which had departed from Bay Head and was scheduled to arrive at Penn Station in New York. None of the approximately 200 passengers or crew members on board were reported injured.

In the wake of the accident, North Jersey Coast Line rail service has been suspended in both directions between Long Branch and South Amboy. “NJ TRANSIT rail tickets and passes are being cross-honored by NJ TRANSIT bus and private carriers during the service suspension,” the Aberdeen Township Police Department noted in their statement.

As authorities continue to investigate, commuters are advised to seek alternative means of transportation and to check for updates on the resumption of rail service.
