TRENTON, NJ – Governor Phil Murphy said that COVID-19 testing for inmates incarcerated in the state prison system and workers of the Department of Corrections is in the works, but also said this weekend, as many as 58 prisoners will be furloughed.
Under those furloughs, inmates over the age of 60 with underlying health conditions will be set free until the COVID-19 pandemic is over.
This week, it was reported that there is a COVID-19 outbreak within the prison system that also has affected prison workers.
