Noose hung from Queens water tower prompts NYPD hate crime probe

QUEENS, N.Y. — Two unidentified men are being sought by police after allegedly hanging a noose from a water tower on Northern Boulevard Tuesday night, prompting an investigation by the NYPD’s Hate Crimes Task Force.

The incident occurred around 7:20 p.m. at 82-26 Northern Boulevard, when the men reportedly climbed the structure and placed the noose before fleeing the scene on foot.

According to authorities, the suspects were last seen running southbound on 83rd Street. Their current whereabouts remain unknown. No injuries were reported in connection with the incident.

The NYPD released descriptions of the two men late Tuesday. The first individual was described as wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and black pants. The second was described as also wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, along with a burgundy vest.

The act has drawn law enforcement attention due to its racial and historical implications. The noose is widely recognized as a symbol of hate and intimidation in the United States.

“The NYPD’s Hate Crimes Task Force is investigating,” police confirmed in a statement.
