NYPD Cop Impersonator Attacks Man on NYC Subway Train

NEW YORK, NY – An impersonator posing as an NYPD detective was reported for unlawfully deterring commuters and attempting detentions at the Whitehall Street – South Ferry subway station on the northbound “R” train platform this past Sunday at approximately 6:35 PM.

The suspect, wearing an NYPD Detective shield on a chain around his neck, targeted a 46-year-old male who, when trying to avoid interaction, was attacked from behind with pepper spray, causing swelling and burning to his face. The assailant then escaped by boarding a northbound “R” train.

The victim later sought treatment at NYC Health+Hospitals/Bellevue and was released in stable condition. The perpetrator was last seen in ripped denim shorts, a black and yellow t-shirt, a yellow hat, and an NYPD Detective shield bearing number 694.
