STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – The NYPD is searching for a gunman accused of attacking and raping a 37-year-old woman Wednesday evening in the Dongan Hills section of Staten Island.
The attack occurred at about 6 p.m. near Dongan Hills Avenue and Jefferson Street, according to police.
Investigators said an unidentified man struck the woman with a firearm before forcibly raping her. He then fled and remained unidentified when police issued a public appeal for information.
Armed Suspect Fled After Attack
The NYPD has released few additional details about the circumstances surrounding the attack.
Police did not disclose the extent of the woman’s injuries, whether she required hospitalization or whether investigators believe she knew her attacker.
No arrest has been announced.
The department’s Crime Stoppers alert described the assailant only as an unidentified male. Police have not publicly provided information about where he went after leaving the area.
