NYPD issues travel advisory due to flooding across the city, state of emergency declared

NEW YORK, NY – Travel in and out of New York City is expected to be filled with delays and detours as the New York City Police Department has reported flooding in several areas throughout the city.

Due to wind conditions, an empty tandem tractor-trailer ban is in effect on most of the city’s bridges. All empty tractor-trailers and tandem trailers will be prohibited due to anticipated high winds.

The NYPD warned motorists to anticipate traffic caused by flooded roadways.

“Due to weather conditions, be cautious when traveling through New York City. There are areas throughout the boroughs that are flooding, so be aware and give yourself enough time to get to your destination,” the NYPD said this morning.

Coastal flooding has been reported along Manhattan’s west side.

Flooding has been reported in Rockaway Beach.

In Jones Beach, the Wantagh Parkway northbound is closed between Ocean Parkway and the Sloop Channel Bridge.

Neptune Avenue in Coney Island has also been flooded.

Wantagh Pkwy NB between Ocean Pky and Sloop Channel Bridge. Water levels across the city peaked at about 8:00 am.

Flooding along the Henry Hudson Parkway has caused major traffic delays in the eastbound lanes heading into the Bronx. Both sides are shut down heading into Manhattan.

Governor Kathy Hochul has declared a state of emergency for New York City due to the storm and coastal flooding.
