NYPD seeks suspect in attempted rape near Central Park’s East Drive

November 2, 2024

NEW YORK — The New York City Police Department is asking for the public’s help in identifying a man wanted in connection with an attempted rape in Central Park early Saturday morning. The incident took place on October 26 around 5:10 a.m. near 85 East Drive, according to authorities.

Police said the victim, a 38-year-old woman, was approached by an unknown male who pushed her over a metal fence, then punched her repeatedly in the face before attempting to sexually assault her. The attack was interrupted, and the suspect fled the scene on a bicycle, heading northbound on Fifth Avenue.

The woman was transported by EMS to a nearby hospital, where she was treated for her injuries and is reported to be in stable condition.

The suspect remains at large, and detectives with the NYPD’s Special Victims Unit are leading the investigation. Authorities have not released a detailed description of the assailant but are urging anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who has information that could aid the investigation to come forward.

The NYPD has increased patrols in the area and continues to canvass for potential witnesses and surveillance footage as they work to identify and apprehend the suspect.
