Bergen County prosecutors say 39-year-old Victor G. Sayas faces aggravated sexual assault and other charges following an investigation involving a child

OAKLAND, NJ – A 39-year-old Oakland man is jailed after investigators accused him of sexually assaulting a girl under the age of 13, leading to three charges including first-degree aggravated sexual assault, the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office announced Thursday.

Victor G. Sayas, 39, of Oakland, was arrested Wednesday following an investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit and the Oakland Police Department.

The investigation began after Oakland Police contacted the prosecutor’s Special Victims Unit on Monday regarding an alleged sexual assault.

Investigators determined that Sayas allegedly sexually assaulted a female victim who was younger than 13 in Oakland, according to the prosecutor’s office.

The release did not provide additional information about the alleged assault, including when it occurred. Authorities also did not disclose further information about the child.

Sayas was charged with first-degree aggravated sexual assault, second-degree sexual assault and third-degree endangering the welfare of a child.

Following his arrest in Oakland, Sayas was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending his first appearance in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack.

The investigation was conducted by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and Oakland Police Department.

The charges are accusations. Sayas is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
