Ocean County GOP Chairman Joins Long List of Republican Leaders to Support Sauickie, Clifton in District 12 Election

January 23, 2025

TOMS RIVER, N.J. — Assemblymen Rob Clifton and Alex Sauickie announced Thursday their plans to seek re-election to the New Jersey Assembly in 2025, representing the 12th legislative district. Backed by a coalition of Ocean County Republican leaders, municipal chairs, and elected officials, the incumbents launched their campaign with a promise to address pressing local issues.

Clifton, a six-term lawmaker from Matawan, and Sauickie, a Jackson resident completing his first full term after a 2022 special election victory, emphasized their commitment to tackling issues such as high utility costs, overdevelopment, and tax burdens. “I am seeking re-election to continue my track record of fighting against these extreme policies and to put people before reckless ideology,” Clifton said.

Sauickie highlighted accomplishments during his tenure, including farmland preservation efforts, school funding advocacy, and infrastructure improvements. “I am more excited than ever for the campaign ahead and another term fighting for common sense,” he said, adding his gratitude for working alongside Clifton in the legislature.

The Assemblymen’s endorsements include Ocean County Republican Chair George Gilmore, State Senator Owen Henry, and the full Jackson Township Council, alongside a slate of Plumsted Township officials and Republican Club leaders. The extensive list underscores their support within the Ocean County GOP, a key stronghold in the district.

Sauickie first entered the legislature after winning a special election to complete the term of late Assemblyman Ron Dancer. His victory was bolstered by endorsements from Dancer’s widow and widespread voter support, earning him 69% of the vote in 2022.

Clifton and Sauickie aim to continue their legislative work on behalf of families, seniors, and businesses in their district as they prepare for the 2025 campaign.
