Ocean State Job Lot opens new Barnegat store with community-focused celebration

The Barnegat store launch continues OSJL’s push to revitalize retail spaces and grow its presence in the New Jersey market.

BARNEGAT, N.J. — Ocean State Job Lot marked the opening of its newest New Jersey store on Saturday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and family-friendly celebration at 580 North Main Street, the former site of a Big Lots.

The 29,797-square-foot store is the discount retail chain’s eighth in New Jersey and the first of three new locations planned for the region this spring. Company executives were joined by Barnegat Deputy Mayor Albert Bille and other local officials to commemorate the event.

As part of its charitable initiatives, the Ocean State Job Lot Charitable Foundation donated “Operation Sleep Well Kits” to the veterans transitional home at Vetwork and contributed $500 to the Popcorn Park Animal Refuge. A 30% discount was also offered to firefighters and EPA personnel from wildfire-affected communities during the opening weekend.

Customers in attendance were treated to free photos with Bluey, glitter tattoos, donuts, beverages, and a live radio broadcast from Thunder 106. Attendees were entered into a drawing for one of three $150 gift cards and automatically enrolled in the store’s free loyalty program, Job Lot Insider Club.

OSJL brings new jobs, growth to Ocean County

“We’re thrilled to introduce Ocean County to our unique brand of shopping,” said Kevin Tammone, Store Team Leader, Ocean State Job Lot.

The opening has generated new employment opportunities in Barnegat, including full-time, part-time, seasonal, and supervisory positions. The company, which operates 163 stores across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic, plans additional expansions throughout 2025.

Ocean State Job Lot was founded in 1977 and employs approximately 5,600 people, with annual sales exceeding $850 million.
