Ongoing Investigation into Fatal Motorcycle Collision in Edison That Killed Belleville Man

August 6, 2024

EDISON, NJ – A serious multi-vehicle crash that occurred on July 28 is currently under investigation by Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone and Edison Police Chief Thomas Bryan.

The incident, involving two motorcycles and a BMW SUV, took place around 8:13 P.M. on Route 1 North at Old Post Road.

Upon arrival at the scene, authorities found Alexander Teshima Chong, 44, from Belleville, deceased. Chong was operating one of the motorcycles during the crash.

Another motorcyclist, also 44, was severely injured and has been transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital for treatment.

Preliminary investigations suggest that both motorcycles collided with the rear of a BMW SUV shortly after turning onto Route 1 North. The second motorcyclist was ejected from his bike upon impact. The driver of the BMW SUV was unharmed and has been cleared from the scene by the authorities.

Detectives Stephen Nappe of the Edison Police Department and James Alleva of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office are leading the ongoing investigation. They are urging anyone with information or surveillance footage of the incident to come forward.
