Owner of Macabre Tennessee Haunted House Arrested for Rape, Attempted Murder

SUMMERTOWN, TN—Russ Alan McKamey, known for operating McKamey Manor, a controversial Halloween attraction in Tennessee featured in a 2023 Hulu documentary, has been arrested. He faces charges of attempted murder and rape following incidents involving his girlfriend at his Summertown home.

The initial arrest occurred on July 17 after a domestic assault report was filed with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office, detailing an alleged strangulation incident. Although initially detained on a $1,000 bond with a domestic assault charge, further allegations surfaced leading to additional charges.

On July 19, following his arrest, authorities were informed of a second assault occurring on the same day, involving another alleged rape and strangulation by McKamey. This prompted an escalation in charges to include attempted second-degree murder and rape, increasing his bond to $100,000.

McKamey’s legal representation has yet to make a public comment. His next court appearance is scheduled for August 6, where he will face these charges before Lawrence County General Sessions Judge William Harris.

McKamey Manor, the site of the alleged crimes, was spotlighted in the Hulu documentary “Monster Inside: America’s Most Extreme Haunted House,” which depicted the extreme nature of the experiences provided, drawing both fascination and criticism from the public and participants alike.
