Passenger Killed After Driver Runs Red Light in South Brunswick

SOUTH BRUNSWICK, N.J. — Authorities are investigating a fatal crash that occurred on Thursday, October 3, 2024, at the intersection of Route 522 and Georges Road, according to Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone and South Brunswick Police Chief Raymond Hayducka. The crash, involving a Hyundai Sonata and a Jeep Liberty, resulted in the death of a passenger in the Hyundai.

At approximately 7:13 p.m., police responded to the scene and found that a Jeep Liberty had run a red light, colliding with the Hyundai. The Hyundai had three occupants, all of whom sustained serious injuries. The rear passenger, Ranjinidevi Ramakrishnan, 43, of Kendall Park, was transported to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.

The driver of the Jeep Liberty was also injured and transported to the same hospital for treatment. The investigation is being led by Officer Trevor Michie of the South Brunswick Police Department and Detective James Alleva of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.

Authorities have not yet announced if any charges will be filed as the investigation continues.
