Pedestrian Struck and Killed by Drunk Driver in Gaithersburg

GAITHERSBURG, Md. — Montgomery County detectives are investigating a fatal pedestrian collision that occurred early Sunday morning on New Hampshire Avenue near Rodney Road. The incident, which claimed the life of a WSSC Water employee, remains under investigation by the department’s Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU).

Officers from the 3rd District and Montgomery County Fire Rescue responded to the scene at approximately 4:40 a.m. on September 8 after receiving reports of a pedestrian being struck. The pedestrian, identified as 39-year-old Ernest Joseph Dyson of Clinton, was working at the time of the incident.

According to the initial investigation, Dyson was hit by a black 2011 Volkswagen CC driven by an intoxicated driver heading southbound on New Hampshire Avenue. Dyson was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities have not yet released further details about the driver involved. Detectives continue to investigate and are asking anyone with information regarding the collision to contact them at (240) 773-6620.
