NEW YORK, NY – Smoke filled up the exit concourse at Penn Station on Tuesday causing concern within one of the nation’s biggest rail travel hubs. It turns out the smoke was caused by a fire in a garbage can underneath where a welder was working. Transit police quickly extinguished the fire and move the can.

MTA Police responded to a garbage can fire on the Exit Concourse at 3:48 p.m., authority spokesman Aaron Donovan said. The fire was extinguished by 3:49.
