Pennsylvania AG Files Lawsuit Against Pittsburgh-Area Home Contractor for Illegal Practices

July 24, 2024

Harrisburg, PA – Attorney General Michelle Henry has initiated a lawsuit against Brothers All Around Service, LLC and its owner, John McDonald, for employing illegal contracts and failing to complete contracted home improvement jobs in Allegheny County. The lawsuit follows multiple consumer complaints about the company’s practices.

The Office of Attorney General’s lawsuit claims that Brothers All Around Service demanded significant upfront payments from consumers, failed to complete the work, and then actively avoided customer inquiries. In some instances, the company did not issue refunds and went as far as blocking customers’ phone numbers to avoid contact.

According to the allegations, the contracts utilized by Brothers did not comply with the Pennsylvania Unfair Trade Practices and Consumer Protection Law or the Pennsylvania Home Improvement Consumer Protection Act (HICPA). These legal infractions have left many consumers out of pocket, with unfinished and, in some cases, improperly executed home renovations.

Attorney General Henry emphasized the commitment of her office to protect consumers from such deceptive practices, stating, “My office will continue to champion for consumers who are victimized by shady home improvement contractors that skirt the law.”

The lawsuit seeks a court declaration that Brothers All Around Service and McDonald violated consumer protection laws, and it asks for restitution for affected consumers. Additionally, it aims to prevent Brothers All Around Service and McDonald from registering as home improvement contractors in the future, safeguarding other potential customers from similar grievances.
