Phil Murphy defends Trenton Vaccine Mandate, says GOP protest is absolute irresponsibility

December 8, 2021
Governor Phil Murphy today said that Republicans protesting the Democrat party's new vaccine mandate at the Statehouse was putting the fully vaccinated within the capitol building and their families at risk.

TRENTON, NJ – New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy today blasted Republican elected officials who are civilly disobeying a Democrat implemented vaccination mandate and vaccine security checkpoint at the state capitol building. Murphy today said the GOP protest of the vaccination mandate is ‘absolute irresponsibility’.

Murphy defended his position by saying Republican lawmakers who do not want to show proof of COVID-19 vaccinations to enter the Statehouse were acting negligently, putting fully the capitol building’s fully vaccinated employees and other legislators at risk.

“I want to underscore the absolute irresponsibility of those folks who are willfully putting other innocent members and their family’s health at risk,” Murphy said. “It’s entirely irresponsible and unacceptable.”

Murphy expressed frustration over the GOP minority’s refusal to comply with the COVID-19 vaccine mandate and mandatory testing now required to enter the state capitol building. While some of the GOP members are vaccinated, they are protesting what they feel is the governor’s overreach, claiming the mandate is politically motivated against Republican lawmakers.
