PHILADELPHIA, PA – A Philadelphia police officer was hurt late Saturday night after a stolen vehicle backed into a patrol car during a confrontation in Frankford.
The incident happened around 10:45 p.m. on the 2500 block of Church Street, where officers from the 15th District had responded to a report of a disorderly crowd.
Upon arrival, police identified a black BMW at the scene as stolen.
As one officer opened the driver’s side door to investigate, the suspect suddenly threw the car in reverse, hitting a marked police vehicle and trapping the officer’s hand between the door and frame.
Officers quickly subdued the driver and took him into custody. The injured officer was transported to Temple University Hospital, where he was treated for a laceration, a broken finger, and shoulder and hip pain. He was listed in stable condition.
The suspect faces multiple charges, including assault on police and vehicle theft. The Northeast Detectives Division continues to investigate the incident.
