Philadelphia LGBTQ Journalist Shot 7 Times Killed At His Home

PHILADELPHIA, PA – District Attorney Larry Krasner and the District Attorney’s LGBTQ+ Advisory Committee issued statements following the murder of Josh Kruger, a journalist and activist for the LGBTQ+ and recovery communities. Kruger was killed in a shooting at his home; the Philadelphia Police Department is investigating the case.

Josh Kruger, a prominent journalist and activist based in Philadelphia, was killed in his home early Monday morning, authorities reported. The 39-year-old was shot seven times in the chest and abdomen at his residence in the Point Breeze neighborhood at approximately 1:29 a.m. He succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at Penn Presbyterian Hospital approximately 45 minutes later.

Law enforcement officials have disclosed that no arrests have been made in connection with the incident, and no weapon has been recovered at this time.

District Attorney Larry Krasner commented, “Josh Kruger uplifted the most vulnerable and marginalized in our communities, particularly those facing addiction and homelessness. His advocacy was an inspiration, and he deserved to write the end of his own story. We will work closely with the police to bring those responsible to justice. My deepest condolences go to all mourning this loss.”

The DA’s LGBTQ+ Advisory Committee also spoke, saying, “Josh Kruger was a tireless advocate for queer individuals living on society’s margins. He was outspoken about issues like police violence, politicized attacks on LGBTQ+ individuals, and homelessness. His murder is devastating, and we urge anyone with information to contact authorities. The communities he fought for every day deserve justice and accountability.”

The DA’s LGBTQ+ Advisory Committee includes prosecutors, victim support coordinators, and queer community leaders in Philadelphia.
