Philadelphia Man Arrested in Deadly West Philadelphia Mass Shooting That Killed Two

Police say a suspect has been arrested nearly three months after a mass shooting in West Philadelphia left two young men dead and three others wounded.

Philadelphia police have arrested a man accused of taking part in a March mass shooting in West Philadelphia that claimed the lives of two 24-year-old men and injured three others.

Marquis Andrews was taken into custody on Monday and transferred from the Philadelphia Federal Detention Center to the Philadelphia Police Department’s Homicide Unit, according to investigators. He is now facing charges in connection with the deadly shooting that occurred on South 60th Street.

The shooting happened on March 30 at approximately 8:40 p.m. in the city’s 18th District. Officers responded to reports of an armed person in the 300 block of South 60th Street and arrived to find multiple victims suffering from gunshot wounds.

Police said a preliminary investigation determined that a white vehicle pulled up to the location before a masked passenger exited and began firing into a crowd gathered outside.

Two men were struck in the chest during the gunfire and later died from their injuries.

Paul Cobb, 24, was transported by responding officers to Penn-Presbyterian Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 9:03 p.m. Naasir Boyd, also 24, was taken to the same hospital and was pronounced dead at 9 p.m.

Three Others Survived the Attack

In addition to the two fatalities, three men suffered gunshot wounds during the shooting.

A 36-year-old man was shot in the stomach and sought treatment at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania Pavilion. A 54-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to the left leg and was treated at HUP Cedar.

A third victim, a 35-year-old man, was shot in the right leg and was also treated at HUP Cedar.

Hospital officials reported the surviving victims were listed in conditions ranging from stable to critical following the attack.

Arrest Made Months After Investigation Began

The arrest comes nearly three months after detectives launched their investigation into the mass shooting.

Authorities have not yet released additional details regarding Andrews’ alleged role in the incident or whether other suspects are being sought.

Investigators previously described the shooting as a targeted attack carried out by a masked gunman who exited a vehicle before opening fire into a group of people.

Andrews remains in custody pending formal processing and arraignment.

Police have not released a photo of the wanted individual.
