PHILADELPHIA — A 36-year-old man was fatally shot during an attempted robbery inside a candy store in West Philadelphia late Wednesday night, according to police.
Officers from the 16th District responded to a report of a shooting on the 800 block of North 40th Street at approximately 10:11 p.m. Upon arrival, they found Terrell Jones, of North Ringgold Street, with multiple gunshot wounds inside the store. Medics pronounced Jones deceased at 10:24 p.m.
A second individual, identified as both a shooting victim and one of the offenders, was later found on the 700 block of Preston Street with gunshot wounds to his arm and chest. He was transported to Penn-Presbyterian Medical Center in stable condition.
The preliminary investigation indicates that Jones was inside the candy store when two male offenders attempted to rob him. One of the suspects fired at Jones, fatally wounding him, but Jones managed to return fire.
The suspects fled the scene in a blue vehicle, which subsequently collided with a SEPTA bus near 41st and Brown Streets. The suspects then fled on foot. A 17-year-old suspect was found nearby on Preston Street with gunshot wounds and was taken into custody.
