Deadly overnight collision on Woodfield Road kills pickup driver

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. — A late-night drive turned deadly in rural Montgomery County when two vehicles slammed head-on along Woodfield Road, killing one driver and leaving another seriously hurt.

The crash happened just before 1:30 a.m. March 15 near the intersection of Woodfield Road and Glendalough Road in the Laytonsville area.

Investigators said a Ford F-150 pickup traveling north collided with a southbound Jeep Grand Cherokee, resulting in a violent head-on impact.

The driver of the pickup, a man, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The woman behind the wheel of the Jeep was rushed to a hospital where she was listed in critical but stable condition.

The collision forced the closure of Woodfield Road between Brink Road and Churchill Downs Road for several hours overnight as crews worked the scene and investigators documented evidence.

Officials have not yet released the identity of the man who died.

The circumstances leading up to the crash remain under investigation.
