POINT PLEASANT, N.J. – The New Jersey Department of Transportation announced that the Route 13/Bridge Avenue Bridge over the Point Pleasant Canal, also known as the Loveland Town Bridge, will close for priority structural repairs beginning Monday, January 5.
The closure is expected to last until late February.
Starting at 9 a.m. on January 5, the bridge will be closed in both directions between Point Pleasant and Bay Head while crews perform work to re-tension the bridge’s support cables — a necessary measure to maintain safe operation. The 1971-built bridge will remain closed through the winter, with the work scheduled during the off-season to reduce impacts on local residents and businesses. Officials said the bridge could reopen sooner if repairs are completed ahead of schedule.
Local access along Bridge Avenue will be maintained, but through traffic will be detoured. Eastbound motorists will be directed to Route 88/Ocean Road, then to Bay Avenue, before returning to Route 13. Westbound traffic will follow Bay Avenue to Route 88/Ocean Avenue and reconnect with Route 13.
The project is part of a $20.4 million statewide drawbridge preventative maintenance program covering structures in Middlesex, Monmouth, and Ocean counties.
Drivers are advised to allow extra travel time and check 511nj.org for real-time traffic updates and construction information.
