Police investigate attempted home burglary on Central Avenue in Cranford

Cranford, NJ – Authorities are investigating an attempted residential burglary that occurred early Friday morning on Central Avenue, where suspects tried but failed to gain entry to a home before fleeing the area.

According to the Cranford Police Department, officers responded to the scene around 6 a.m. after receiving a report of suspicious activity. Investigators believe the incident is connected to a series of similar burglary attempts in nearby towns during the same timeframe.

Police said high-end vehicles continue to be the main target in these overnight crimes. Residents are urged to lock their vehicles, secure their homes, and remove key fobs from parked cars. Officials also encouraged homeowners to verify that their security cameras are functioning properly.

Authorities noted that car thieves have been entering and leaving the township quickly, often showing little regard for safety while fleeing. The department said nearby communities have experienced a surge in similar incidents in recent weeks.

Anyone with surveillance footage of the attempted burglary is asked to contact Detective Lieutenant Spencer Durkin at 908-709-7346 or email police@cranfordnj.org. Suspicious activity can also be reported directly to police at 908-272-2222.

Police say burglars attempted to enter a Central Avenue home in Cranford early Friday amid a regional surge in high-end vehicle thefts.
