SCHENECTADY, N.Y. — Authorities in Schenectady are investigating an incident in which an 11-year-old girl was followed by a masked individual in a grey vehicle while walking to school Tuesday morning.

According to police, the incident occurred at approximately 8:40 a.m. near Winston Place and Albany Street. The child, a student at Central Park Middle School, reported that the driver of the vehicle, believed to be a man, made several gestures for her to get into the car as he followed her for several blocks.

The girl refused and continued to school unharmed, where she promptly reported the encounter to school officials. Police were contacted and have since identified the vehicle involved.

Investigators are working to determine the identity of the suspect and are encouraging anyone with additional information to contact the Schenectady Police Department Tips Line at 518-788-6566.

No additional reports of suspicious activity involving the vehicle or suspect have been received as of now, officials said.

Police are actively working to ensure the safety of students in the area.
