Jeannette police dog suffers neck bite while helping secure perimeter during FBI operation
JEANNETTE, Pa. — A Jeannette Police K-9 was rushed to an emergency veterinarian after a pit bull jumped a fence and attacked the police dog during an FBI-led operation targeting a suspect wanted on federal drug charges.
The incident happened Thursday at a residence on Adam Street, where Jeannette Police officers were assisting the Federal Bureau of Investigation with an operation to locate an individual wanted on federal drug charges.
According to the Jeannette Police Department, Sergeant Phillips and K-9 Diesel were securing the perimeter from the front sidewalk while other officers were at the front door of the home.
Police said someone inside the residence placed a pit bull in the backyard during the operation.
A short time later, the pit bull allegedly cleared a 4-foot chain-link fence and charged toward K-9 Diesel.
Authorities said the pit bull bit Diesel on the neck before the two dogs were separated.
K-9 Diesel was taken to an emergency veterinary hospital, where he was treated for minor injuries.
Police did not release information about the condition of the pit bull or whether any charges are expected in connection with the incident.
