Police Make Arrest in Deadly North Beach Shooting

NORTH BEACH, MD – A tragic incident unfolded in North Beach on the evening of June 26, 2024, when a dispute escalated into a fatal shooting. Calvert County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called to the scene at the 9500 block of Sea Gull Court shortly after 9 p.m., where they discovered 39-year-old William Lee Hutcherson suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper body.

Despite immediate first aid efforts by deputies and EMS personnel, Hutcherson was pronounced dead at the scene. Early reports from witnesses indicate that the victim was involved in an altercation with another man in the parking lot prior to the shooting.

Authorities swiftly apprehended 40-year-old Anthony Wayne Simpson, Jr., from Fredericksburg, VA. Simpson has been charged with second-degree murder, first and second-degree assault, use of a firearm during a felony/violent crime, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He is currently being held at the Calvert County Detention Center as the investigation continues.
