HARRISBURG, PA — A Pennsylvania State Trooper has been charged with multiple offenses including aggravated assault for allegedly causing head trauma to an infant and engaging in a pattern of child abuse, the state Attorney General’s Office announced Tuesday.
Christopher S. Young, 35, of Lancaster County, faces charges of aggravated assault, simple assault, endangering the welfare of a child, and reckless endangerment following a joint investigation by the Office of Attorney General and the Pennsylvania State Police Bureau of Integrity and Professional Standards.
Young was previously charged with felony witness intimidation in connection to the same child abuse case. Bail has been set at $50,000.
According to investigators, the infant sustained head injuries in Young’s care in September 2023, requiring hospitalization, medical treatment, and physical therapy. The probe also uncovered alleged abuse involving two other children, including repeated forceful contact and allowing children access to firearms.
Attorney General Dave Sunday called the allegations “deeply disturbing,” stating, “When a sworn officer violates their oath it is a stain on all officers who selflessly and professionally protect their communities.”
Young is currently suspended without pay, according to Pennsylvania State Police.
In a related witness intimidation case, Young was previously found in a wooded area behind a potential witness’s Schuylkill County residence late at night on February 24, armed with a gun and knife, following repeated calls and texts.
