Police Witness Drunk Driver with Young Child Passenger

WESTBURY, NY—A Westbury resident was arrested early Friday for Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated under Leandra’s Law. Nassau County Police apprehended Doroteo Morales Rodriguez, 43, after observing his 2012 Dodge Ram committing multiple traffic infractions on Stewart Avenue near Grand Boulevard at 12:05 AM.

The police conducted a traffic stop and noted Rodriguez exhibited signs of intoxication, including slurred speech, watery eyes, and an odor of alcohol. He reportedly failed the Standardized Field Sobriety Test and was arrested without further incident. A 4-year-old passenger was also in the vehicle but was unharmed and later released to a family friend.

Rodriguez faces several charges including Aggravated DWI with a child under 16 present, endangering the welfare of a child, and additional DWI and traffic-related offenses. He is scheduled for arraignment at the First District Court in Hempstead.
