Portsmouth man charged after Virginia Beach shooting leaves one seriously injured

Police say a 21-year-old faces multiple felony charges after gunfire erupted on Carew Road, leaving one man hospitalized and several others with minor injuries.

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — A Portsmouth man has been arrested in connection with a Virginia Beach shooting that seriously injured one person and left several others hurt, according to police.

The shooting occurred just after midnight on June 15 in the 800 block of Carew Road.

Officers responding to the scene found an adult man suffering from a gunshot wound. Police said the victim sustained serious injuries but was in stable condition and is expected to recover.

Additional victims at the scene suffered minor injuries, according to the Virginia Beach Police Department.

The department’s Homicide Squad took over the investigation.

On June 16, detectives arrested 21-year-old Brayden Devers of Portsmouth.

Devers has been charged with:

  • One count of aggravated malicious wounding
  • Four counts of attempted malicious wounding
  • Five counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony
  • One count of shooting into an occupied vehicle

The investigation remains ongoing.
