HARWOOD, Md. — A U.S. Postal Service worker from Washington, D.C., is celebrating a $1 million win after purchasing a Millionaire’s Club scratch-off ticket in Maryland, lottery officials announced Tuesday.

The man, who frequently crosses state lines to buy Maryland Lottery tickets, won the top prize after stopping at a 7-Eleven on Solomons Island Road in Harwood. He said the purchase was unplanned, and he selected several tickets at random.

After returning home to scratch the tickets, he revealed the $1 million prize on a $20 Millionaire’s Club game. “Thank you, Lord,” he recalled saying after matching the winning number 54.

With 30 years of service under his belt, the postal worker said the win has made his retirement plans more attainable. He also intends to use part of the prize to pay off bills.

The 7-Eleven that sold the winning ticket will receive a $1,000 bonus from the Maryland Lottery for selling the top-prize ticket.
