Princeton police reveal new swag, external bullet proof vests

PRINCETON, N.J. — Starting next week, Princeton police officers will be sporting new uniforms as part of a department-wide upgrade aimed at enhancing officer safety and comfort while on duty. The update includes a switch to outer carrier ballistic vests and a fresh color scheme for a modern, professional appearance.

The new outer carrier vests replace the traditional internal concealable ballistic vests, providing improved functionality and comfort for officers. The change is intended to better support officers during long shifts and physically demanding situations.

“This update reflects our ongoing commitment to ensuring officer safety and effectiveness on the job,” the department stated in a social media post Thursday. The department emphasized that while the uniforms may look different, the commitment to protecting and serving the community remains unchanged.

The outer carrier vests also allow officers to redistribute equipment typically carried on a duty belt, which can reduce strain and improve mobility. The updated color scheme, details of which have not been disclosed, further enhances the uniform’s professional appearance.

The Princeton Police Department joins other law enforcement agencies across the country adopting similar changes to prioritize officer well-being without compromising operational efficiency.
