Stafford man arrested after shoplifting drinks and merchandise from Target

STAFFORD, VA — A man was taken into custody Monday evening after allegedly stealing drinks and other merchandise from a Stafford Target and attempting to flee to a nearby business, according to the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office.

At around 6:28 p.m. on Monday, First Sergeant Jacobeen responded to Target at 25 South Gateway Drive after store loss prevention reported a male suspect leaving the store with stolen items. The man was seen walking to a neighboring business, where he was stopped by law enforcement.

The suspect, identified as Jamal Johnson, 34, of Stafford, admitted to stealing a couple of drinks. A search of his bookbag, conducted with his consent, uncovered more stolen merchandise.

Johnson was arrested and charged with petit larceny, shoplifting, and public intoxication. He was booked into the Rappahannock Regional Jail on a secured bond.

The incident was one of several documented in the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office Daily Incident Report for Monday.
