SUDLERSVILLE, Md. – Five people were displaced after a fire tore through a single-family home on Peters Corner Road in Queen Anne’s County Thursday afternoon, according to the Maryland State Fire Marshal.
The fire was discovered by an occupant shortly before 1:30 p.m. inside the living room of the one-story, wood-frame house at 1116 Peters Corner Road. The occupant escaped, but a pet cat died in the fire.
One person was evaluated at the scene for minor fire-related injuries.
Firefighters Had Flames Under Control in 30 Minutes
The Sudlersville Volunteer Fire Company led the response, with 25 firefighters working the one-alarm fire. Crews brought it under control in about 30 minutes.
Damage to the house and its contents was estimated at $230,000.
Investigators found no smoke alarms in the home. The property also did not have a fire alarm or sprinkler system, according to the fire marshal’s preliminary report.
Cause of Sudlersville Fire Remains Under Investigation
Investigators traced the fire’s origin to the interior living room, but what sparked it had not been determined as of the initial investigation.
No arrests have been made.
