Queens Man Arrested in Connection with Fatal December Crash

NEW YORK, N.Y. — A 31-year-old Queens man was arrested on Wednesday morning in connection with a fatal vehicle collision that occurred last December, according to the New York City Police Department.

Mario R. Hill, of 168-32 119th Avenue in Queens, was taken into custody at approximately 10:11 a.m. on August 21, 2024, within the confines of the 105th Precinct. Hill faces several charges, including manslaughter for recklessly causing death, criminally negligent homicide, reckless driving, and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the third degree.

The charges stem from a collision on December 18, 2023, at around 8:15 p.m. Police responded to a 911 call reporting a crash near South Conduit Avenue and Guy R. Brewer Boulevard. An investigation determined that Hill, driving a 2021 Dodge Ram northbound on Guy R. Brewer Boulevard, collided with a 2002 Chevy Impala traveling eastbound on South Conduit Avenue.

The driver of the Chevy, 71-year-old Fitz H. Slowe of Brooklyn Avenue, was transported to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead. Hill was also taken to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center in stable condition.

The NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad has been leading the ongoing investigation, which resulted in Hill’s arrest nearly eight months after the incident.
