QUEENS, N.Y. – A 40-year-old man was killed late Monday night in a motor vehicle crash after his scooter collided with an SUV and then struck a fire hydrant in Hollis, police said.

The NYPD reported that the fatal crash occurred around 10:30 p.m. on December 29 at the intersection of 204th Street and Jamaica Avenue, within the confines of the 103rd Precinct.

According to investigators with the NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad, a 2024 Zhejiang Jiajue gas-powered scooter, operated by the victim, identified as Kevin Loadholt of Queens, was traveling eastbound on Jamaica Avenue when a 2021 Honda HR-V driven by a 23-year-old woman began making a left turn from northbound 204th Street onto westbound Jamaica Avenue. The scooter struck the Honda, then continued forward and crashed into a nearby fire hydrant.

Emergency responders transported Loadholt to North Shore University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the Honda remained at the scene.
