Quick thinking witnesses lead to arrest in DC robbery

Suspect nabbed moments after purse snatching on M Street in Northwest DC

Washington, DC — A purse snatching in a busy Northwest corridor ended in a swift arrest after witnesses alerted a nearby officer who quickly tracked down the suspect and recovered the stolen property.

The incident occurred Sunday at approximately 6:25 p.m. in the 1800 block of M Street Northwest, where a woman was approached by a suspect who grabbed her purse before fleeing on foot.

Witnesses immediately flagged down a Metropolitan Police Department officer in the area, leading to a rapid response and apprehension of the suspect.

Police said the victim’s purse was recovered following the arrest.

The suspect was identified as 36-year-old Hyeong Ju Suh of Chesterfield, Virginia. He has been charged with robbery and fugitive from justice.

The investigation remains ongoing.
